What To Pack On Your Next Cruise

Updated: Apr 24, 2023

Going on a cruise can be a fun and exciting way to explore new destinations and make unforgettable memories.

However, packing for a cruise can be overwhelming, especially if you're a first-time cruiser. Here are some tips on what to pack on a cruise to ensure you have a comfortable and enjoyable experience.

  1. Clothing: When it comes to packing clothes for a cruise, think about the activities you plan on doing onboard the ship and at ports of call. Pack comfortable clothing for daytime activities, such as swimsuits, cover-ups, shorts, and t-shirts. For dinner and evening events, bring dressier clothes such as formal wear or cocktail dresses. It's also a good idea to pack comfortable shoes for walking and activities, as well as dress shoes for formal events.

  2. Sun protection: With so much time spent outdoors, it's important to pack sun protection. Bring sunscreen with at least SPF 30, a hat to protect your face, and sunglasses to protect your eyes from the sun's glare.

  3. Toiletries: Don't forget to pack toiletries such as shampoo, conditioner, soap, and toothpaste. Cruise ships usually provide some toiletries, but it's always good to bring your own favorites. Also, pack any prescription medications you need and any over-the-counter medications you might need, like motion sickness medicine.

  4. Electronics: Bring any electronics you might need, such as cameras, phones, tablets, and chargers. Some cruise ships offer Wi-Fi, but it can be expensive, so plan accordingly. Also, bring an adapter if you need one for international ports.

  5. Documents: Make sure to bring your passport or other identification, as well as your cruise documents and travel insurance information. Keep these documents in a safe place, like a waterproof pouch or a travel wallet.

  6. Other essentials: Pack a small backpack or tote bag for shore excursions, and bring a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated. Don't forget sunglasses, a book or e-reader for relaxation, and a small amount of cash for tipping or souvenirs.

It's also important to check with your specific cruise line for any packing restrictions or guidelines. Some cruise lines have dress codes for formal nights, and others may have restrictions on certain items like alcohol or electrical devices.

By packing the essentials and being prepared, you can relax and enjoy your cruise vacation without any added stress. Happy cruising!
